Thank You plaque for Berkswell Station adopters

THE NEW station adopters at Berkswell station are making sure their station blooms better for customers.

The five-strong adoption team, members of London Midland’s Adopt a Station scheme, have planted three additional planters on Platform 1, making it a broad stretch of colour to further brighten up the newly painted station.

The community-focused adopters and keen gardeners, led by Secretary of the Berkswell Society Andrew Burrow, formally adopted their station in December 2016, having already used their gardening skills to transform a number of green areas around their village, including a large roundabout island.

Since then they have extended their planting at the station and even extended the size of their team, welcoming new adopter Judy in January.

To recognise the adopters’ commitment to the station, members of the route team Steve Fisher, head of route for regional services and Ben Bourton-Payne, customer service manager, west coast north, met with them, members of Berkswell Parish Council, which sponsors the plants, and customer service assistant Graham, to present a Thank You plaque, which will be installed at the station.=

Steve said: “Adopt a Station is a key feature of the work we are doing to get closer to the communities we serve across our network. We are proud to be working in partnership with the adopters, the Berkswell Society and Berkswell Parish Council towards creating a better station for customers. The presentation of this plaque illustrates how valuable such partnerships are to the railway.”

Andrew said: “Adopting Berkswell station shows we care about where we live. We have received very positive feedback from people using the station and great support from Graham who manages the Ticket Office.

“Really adoption is a win, win for everyone, helping people to work better together and giving our community a station to be proud of.”

Faye Lambert, head of community rail, added: “Through Adopt a Station, London Midland supports local groups who want to make their stations a welcoming gateway to their community.

“Working together makes things happen, so why not get involved too?
