An 18-year-old has been charged with a string of offences after officers on patrol in Solihull spotted a suspected stolen moped, West Midlands Police has confirmed.
Members of the force’s Guardian Taskforce were patrolling the Chelmsley Wood area on Friday when they saw the moped being ridden along Over Green Drive. A man was arrested shortly afterwards.
Further enquiries by the team led to the recovery of a second bike, which had been reported stolen back in December.
Brayden Hughes, 18, of Solihull, has been charged with handling stolen goods, taking a motor vehicle without consent, and driving with no licence and no insurance.
He has been released on bail and is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 6 August.
The Guardian Taskforce carries out regular deployments across the West Midlands, working alongside neighbourhood policing teams to target hotspot areas for serious youth violence and knife crime. Their operations are often driven by intelligence and tip-offs from members of the public.
West Midlands Police is urging anyone who witnesses suspicious activity in their area to report it via 101 or the force’s website, and to always dial 999 in an emergency.
