A TEENAGE cyclist is in a critical condition after he was hit by a van in Sheldon.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the serious incident which happened just after 9.30pm on The Radleys road on Friday, January 4.

The 19-year-old victim was hit by a white VW Transporter Van and was taken to hospital where police say he is in a ‘critical condition with life-threatening injuries’.

The driver of the van stopped at the scene and is assisting with police enquires.

Sergeant Alan Wood from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are currently in the process of piecing together exactly what happened in the run up to the collision.

“We particularly want to speak to a man who appeared to be running alongside and in company with the cyclist along Elmstead Avenue shortly before the collision occurred.

“I ask you to make yourself known to us as you may hold important information about how this collision occurred.

“We urge anyone else who witnessed the collision or has information and hasn’t already spoken to us to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 and quote log number 2554 of January 4.
