Teachers and pupils attacked at Ninestiles Academy

Solihull Editorial 28th Nov, 2018   0

TEACHERS were knocked over and kicked after a fight erupted outside an Acocks Green school.

The fracas started between a group of people outside Ninestiles Academy gates at the end of the school day, around 3.45pm, on Monday (November 26).

It is believed non-pupils assaulted one of the pupils at the Hartfield Crescent School.

When the teachers, who were on duty at the gates, tried to intervene they were knocked over and kicked.

West Midlands Police said two staff members and a student were left with minor injuries.

A spokesperson from the school said: “Sadly, there was a very unfortunate incident outside the school building after the end of the school day, on Monday, 26 November, when people from outside the school assaulted one of our pupils.

“A student was taken to hospital as a precaution but was allowed home after examination.

“Our teachers were on duty at the gates at that time as usual and did a wonderful job in trying to protect the student but regrettably two of our staff were hurt in the process.

“We are lucky to have staff that really care about our students and their welfare; who look after and support them really well – and we’d like to thank them for their continuing care and especially praise those who were so diligent.

“Our priority is always to support our students’ safety and welfare and we are also very mindful of the safety of staff.

“Several staff members are on gate duty both before and after school and this will continue to ensure pupils’ safety.

“We’d also like to thank the police who were so prompt with their support. We are now working with them in their investigation.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 and quote crime reference number 20BE/275749Z/18.
