THE INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed Diva Opera held a sold-out performance of Puccini’s Tosca in Tanworth-in-Arden on July 7.

The three-act opera was performed at the Church of St Mary Magdalene, which has recently had a major internal transformation.

More than £33,000 was raised with the cash going to support the Friends of the Church which is raising the funds to complete the redevelopment.

Some of the money will also go to the MASIC Foundation, which supports women who suffer from injuries in childbirth.

Over 175 people attended with many travelling over 100 miles to watch.

Opera lovers enjoyed sparkling wine before the performance and many dined during the interval with picnics on the village green, while the Bell pub laid on a special menu for the performance.

Organiser and MASIC Foundation President Professor Mike Keighley said: “I would like to thank all our sponsors and others who made the event happen and I am delighted that the event attracted so much support and raised substantial funds for two worthwhile charitable causes.
