Take a leap of faith for Age UK Solihull

Solihull Editorial 27th Jan, 2024   0

DAREDEVILS are being called on to join Solihull volunteer and take a leap of faith for charity.

Age UK is looking for residents to join Erin Twigger when she takes to the skies at Hinton Airfield in Northamptonshire on May 4.

Erin was a Telephone Friendship Befriender for two years at another Age UK before moving to the Midlands where Age UK Solihull is now her closest Age UK.

She said: “Volunteering as a Telephone Befriender has helped me to understand the struggles with loneliness, isolation and other issues so many older people face.

“I wanted to support older people in my local community which is why I signed up to skydive in aid of Age UK Solihull.

“I’m nervous about the jump but also really excited.

“I’m hoping to exceed my target of £600 so the funds I raise can help as many older people as possible.”

Fundraisers can sign up individually or as a group.

The skydive is free of charge to participants, as long as they raise a minimum of £500 each for Age UK Solihull.

Full training is provided on the day, and anyone taking part will be attached to an experienced instructor.

Other dates are available.

Rebecca Jacob, fundraising manager at Age UK Solihull, said, “This is a fantastic opportunity to tick an amazing experience off your bucket list in 2024, while helping a local charity.

“I did a skydive myself five years ago, so I know what a daunting but incredible experience it is.

“All the funds raised will help us to support older people here in the Solihull borough, so it is a wonderful thing to do.”

Anyone interested in taking part in a tandem jump in aid of Age UK Solihull on May 4, or any other date, should contact the Fundraising Team on 0121 704 7842 or email: [email protected].
