Swimming pools open to help Solihull keep fit despite coronavirus pandemic

SWIMMING Pools and gyms in Solihull are staying open for now, emphasising hygiene to prevent spread of the coronavirus.

Tudor Grange Swimming Pool has made no changes to its opening hours, despite advice from the government for people to avoid congregating with others.

Managers say chlorinated water is safe for swimming.

A spokesperson for Everyone Active, which manages Tudor Grange Leisure Centre, said they are currently open: “We would like to reassure customers that Everyone Active’s leisure centres remain open.

“Our fitness gyms and studios are regularly cleaned, and we ask that customers use the anti-bacterial cleaning sprays and paper towels provided in gym areas to wipe down your station before and after use.

“Our advice is that is also safe to go swimming at this time, as the water and the chlorine within the swimming pools will kill the virus.

“To reduce the risk of infection we would ask customers to observe good hygiene practice by showering before using the pool, and to follow the necessary hygiene precautions when visiting public places.”

Other health centres are staying open as normal – a team-member at Virgin Active in Blythe said it had seen no change, and at Bannatyne Health Club staff said they would stay open as normal.
