Suspected car key burglars arrested on suspicion of 44 thefts

WEST Midlands police have arrested four people in connection with a series of car key burglaries that have taken place  over the past year.

Between July 2022 and February 2023 officers investigated and linked 44 offences where thieves broke into houses to locate the car keys before stealing their cars.

They targeted mainly high value vehicles like BMW, Audi and Mercedes cars.

The Birmingham Serious and Organised Crime Team launched an investigation into the thefts which took place across Birmingham, Solihull and Warwickshire.

And yesterday (May 5) officers arrested two teenagers and two men on suspicion of burglary and attempted burglary.

The men aged 18 and 25 and the teenage boys aged 16 and 17 are currently in custody and will be questioned in connection with the offences.

Detective Insp Matt Underwood, from the Birmingham Serious and Organised Crime Team, said: “This has been a complex investigation which we continue to unravel.

“We believe this to be an organised crime on a significant scale, with thieves targeting properties across the region for high value vehicles.

“We have arrested four people in connection with the series of offences, but this isn’t the end of our investigation as we continue to uncover the complicated network and the gangs that are connected to this type of offending.”
