SCHOOL days – the best days of your life?
Susan Elks, nee Hill, remembers them fondly at Catherine de Barnes Church School, so much so she’s trying to organise a reunion.
It was June, 1953 and their Queen’s coronation photograph, young faces staring out at the camera.
“I’ve tried to contact a lot of people, but many of the girls have changed their names,” said Susan, who still lives close by in Wythall.
“I’m currently trying to write an extensive autobiography based on those school days.
“Of course, it’s 70 years ago but it would be lovely to make contact with and perhaps meet up with them in this our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Year.”
In the photograph from 1953 Susan is seven years old, front row, third from the right.
“It would be wonderful to include their outstanding memories of a wonderful rural school life, particularly in the formative years of five to 11,” said Susan.
