Support Local - shoppers urged to back Solihull's great shops

SOLIHULL Council’s photo competition ends on December 4 and with little time left Solihull BID is encouraging businesses to enter and highlights the importance of ‘supporting local’.

To get involved in the Instagram competition businesses should email their picture to [email protected] with their business name, business information (including what they do, business website, and social media handles).

Images will then be shared on the Council’s Instagram page (@solihullcouncil) where people can like, comment and share their support for this campaign.

The top five business posts will then be judged by a panel of stakeholders and two winners will be selected.

One will receive a free annual membership to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) the other the existing prize of a year’s free membership to the Solihull Chamber of Commerce.

Both winners will be promoted through either the FSB or Chamber marketing channels.

“We are encouraging everyone to ‘support local’ to keep our towns and high streets going,” said Councillor Karen Grinsell, Deputy Leader of Solihull Council.

“We are here to help and the Council’s business team can provide information and support to help businesses to do the right thing for Solihull. If you do go out for essentials, remember hands, face, space.”

Melanie Palmer, chief executive, Solihull BID added: “We hope that Solihull businesses are able to get involved in this project as any element of collaboration is vital during these tough times.

“The next few weeks are going to be so crucial to the economy and we must all pull together to support where we can.”

The ‘Support Local’ campaign is a collaboration between Solihull Council and key partners including the Solihull Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Small Businesses, Shirley Marketing Group, Solihull Bid, Visit Knowle, Touchwood, Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre and has a focus on small and independent retail businesses on Solihull’s high streets.
