YOUNGSTERS got a taste of life as a student nurse.
Health and Social Care students at Solihull Sixth Form College received an introduction to nursing during a visit to Birmingham City University (BCU).
Those studying towards their BTEC Extended Diploma Health and Social Care course had the opportunity to experience the department for nursing and midwifery, which was led by Marc Alner at BCU
Not only did they get to see the facilities and resources at the university, but they also had the chance to try out some of the specialist equipment in the department.
Among the staff who gave students the benefit of their expertise were nursing lecturer Jim Chapman, adult nursing lecturer Sharon McLeod, learning disability nursing lecturer Robin Wilkinson and child nursing lecturer Sarah Bond.
Assistant curriculum leader, Nosheen Hamid, said: “The visit to Birmingham City University was a fantastic opportunity for our young people to experience a university environment and start thinking about possible higher education destinations.
“Most have ambitions to work in the healthcare professions, therefore the opportunity to meet with academic experts was hugely beneficial.”
