THE POWER of volunteers has been praised by West Midlands Police.
The force said 2025 was a standout year for its StreetWatch programme – a community-led initiative that brings residents together to be extra eyes and ears in their neighbourhoods.
Volunteers patrol their local area, report concerns, and work closely with neighbourhood police teams to help improve safety and reassurance where it’s needed most.
Last year, 838 dedicated volunteers took part in 131 StreetWatch groups across the West Midlands.
The force said in total volunteers gave 7,140 hours to help provide high-visibility patrols, tackle issues such as antisocial behaviour, and work with officers to understand crime trends in their local areas.
Sam O’Dell, StreetWatch Coordinator, said: “Our StreetWatch volunteers are incredible. Their commitment and local knowledge play a vital role in supporting neighbourhood police teams.
“The information and reports they provide help us build a better picture of crime and antisocial behaviour, allowing teams to focus resources on the right places at the right time.
“The impact of StreetWatch goes beyond numbers – it’s about building trust, confidence, and stronger connections between communities and policing.”
