Street Tag gets Solihull residents on the move and exploring

AN APP designed to get residents on the move discovering parks and green spaces by walking, running or cycling is set to be launched in Solihull.

Street Tag is a free family-friendly game that enables players to collect points by using their smartphones to scan virtual tags.

The tags will be found in various locations across the borough including parks and open spaces, libraries, community and leisure centres.

The app will log any activity completed by residents, and it will show on a range of competitive community and school leader boards.

Schools join the Schools Leader Board and compete against each other, while residents in small groups of six or less can compete against other families or groups on a Community Leader Board.

Leader boards will be active for eight weeks and the top teams will win fantastic prizes.

Councillor Wazma Qais, Solihull’s cabinet member for Communities and Leisure, said: “We’re really excited to be working with Street Tag and hoping to replicate the impact they have had across the country.

“Street Tag is about incentivising people to get active and explore their local area, their parks, open spaces and places of interest.

“Street Tag is one way to encourage children and adults to be more active through a fun and competitive app.

“I’m sure if people follow the ‘tags’ they’ll find out more about the place they live in, as well as getting out in the fresh air.

“This initiative will link residents with local green spaces, cultural, and local business through prizes and I do hope as many schools, businesses and community groups as possible will join in the fun and get active too.”
