St Alphege Choir take to the stage with Aled Jones

CHORISTERS from St Alphege Choir had ‘yet another amazing experience’ when they joined TV presenter and singer Aled Jones on stage at Lichfield Cathedral as part of his latest UK tour.

The choir was one of two selected out of 174 applicants – with the Songs of Praise presenter and voice of the Snowman theme selecting the winners personally.

They joined the Small Schools Multi Academy Trust Choir from Burton on Trent to perform with the singer.

Director of Music at St Alphege Church, Joe Cooper, said: “Like Aled, we are passionate about the English choral tradition, and work tirelessly to ensure the development and growth of this tradition. Singing with Aled Jones was an amazing opportunity for our choristers – we had a great time at Lichfield taking two coaches full of people from Solihull to enjoy the concert.”

Singer Aled added: “There was an overwhelming number of choirs that applied and it was a tough decision to pick just two. I’m a firm believer that we have the greatest choral tradition here in the U.K. And I’m really excited to have shared the stage with some of our greatest choirs.’’

The Lichfield performance is not the first major event for St Alphege Choir – last summer they appeared on BBC Breakfast as part of the Queen’s 90th Birthday celebrations, while they have also had the honour of singing at the world-famous Notre Dame in Paris.

Children from all backgrounds are welcome to join St Alphege Choir – as long as they are seven or above.
