Solihull's Jingle Jog raises thousands for homeless charity Change

THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for homeless charity Change into Action after Solihull fun runners gave the gift of a brighter future this Christmas.

More than 220 Santas took to Solihull town centre at the weekend to complete the 2.5km Jingle Bell Jog course that took participants around Mell Square and up and down the High Street.

Runners of all ages took part in the event organised by Solihull BID – the Business Improvement District for the town centre – and sponsored by Touchwood.

In all £3,004 was raised and all of it will be donated to Change into Action, the Alternative Giving Scheme supporting specialist organisations and outreach services working to change the circumstances of rough sleepers and those at risk of becoming rough sleepers.

Melanie Palmer, chief executive of Solihull BID, said: “Sunday morning was amazing! Filled with fun, family, laughter and kindness all in the form of over 220 Santas jogging around the town centre.

“The warm-up with the panto dames and local gym Xcelerate created lots of giggles before the big count down to the start. Thanks to all that took part, we have raised over £3,000 for the charity Change into Action to help the homeless this Christmas.

“Touchwood shopping centre sponsored the event which meant every penny donated and from tickets bought has gone to the charity.”

Participants were treated to visits from Perry the Bull, the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games official mascot, as well as the hilarious pantomime dames from The Core Theatre’s production of Cinderella.

“This is such a fantastic event,” said Touchwood general manager Tony Elvin. “It is everything a festive event should be, it’s great fun, it feels Christmassy and it has a wonderful cause at its heart.

“Touchwood have been supporters of the homeless charity Change into Action since its inception and this is great way to raise money and awareness whilst having some fun and keeping fit.”
