Solihull's Busy Bees nursery named 'charity champion'

A SOLIHULL nursery has been named ‘charity champion’ after raising nearly £4,000 for a UK child bereavement charity.

Busy Bees at Discoveryland, on Lode Lane, was nominated at the Busy Bees Awards which celebrates outstanding individual and team achievements at more than 370 Busy Bees nurseries in Europe. This year, the awards were hosted virtually, with teams across the UK, Ireland, Jersey and Italy joining together remotely to watch the ceremony online.

The nursery was praised for going above and beyond for Child Bereavement UK (CBUK), Busy Bees’ chosen charity this year. The team organised a fundraising event for CBUK, raising more than £1,500, and had a special commemorative buddy bench made which sits pride of place at the nursery.

Through various raffles, auctions and open afternoons, the team nearly tripled this amount, reaching a grand total of £3,911, which is expected to increase in the near future as the team has secured several coveted prizes, including a signed Aston Villa shirt, for an upcoming fundraising auction.

Centre director Debra Mason said: “It has been truly heart-warming to see our team and community come together and help us raise a wonderful amount for Child Bereavement UK. The support they provide at incredibly difficult times is invaluable, and we couldn’t be prouder to support such an amazing charity.

“This accolade is testament to our team’s dedication and our parents’ continued support. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed to our fundraising efforts.”

On reopening most of its nurseries, Busy Bees unveiled new rules aiming to keep life as close to normal for children, with staff advised to cuddle their key children if they become upset during the day and to only wear face masks for temperature checks.
