Solihull writer set for world premiere of play at The Rep

THE STAGE is set for the world premiere of Solihull writer’s play.

Ian Hallard’s The Way Old Friends Do will open at The Rep on February 17 until March 4 before heading off on a UK tour.

The play is set in 1988 and two school friends tentatively come out to one another: one as gay, the other as an ABBA fan.

Nearly 30 years later, a chance meeting sets them on a brand-new path and they decide to form the world’s first ABBA tribute band – in drag.

But can their friendship survive the tribulations of a life on the road which includes platform boots, fake beards and a distractingly attractive stranger.

As well as Ian the cast includes Donna Berlin, James Bradshaw, Sara Crowe, Andrew Horton and Rose Shalloo.

It also features the voices Miriam Margolyes and Paul O’Grady.
