A PAIR of Solihull brothers will be hitting the small screen in the latest TV series of The New Pope.

Twin brothers Matthew and Joshua Smallwood, are delighted to be joining a star-studded cast in the prime-time television drama when it airs next year.

Matthew and Joshua, who are 17, have been filming for The New Pope in Rome and Venice as well as closer to home in the UK alongside award-winning actors Jude Law and John Malkovich,

The Solihull duo honed their acting craft attending weekend classes at the Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts Solihull ahead of their roles for the Sky Atlantic programme.

Matthew said: “I remember watching the first series, The Young Pope, and enjoying the way Paolo used the character’s childhood as a way to influence the present. I couldn’t wait to find out the story I was to take on and play out.

“The team put so much trust in me to take risks freely – I loved every second of filming.”

Joshua said: “I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with such talented people – including the award-winning writer and director Paolo Sorrentino and the incredible actor John Malkovitch – and to have such amazing support from the cast and crew.

“I am very proud of the work I did and can’t wait for it to be released so that everyone can enjoy watching it, as much as I enjoyed being part of it.”
