Solihull town centre lights up over Christmas

Solihull Editorial 26th Dec, 2023   0

VISITORS to Solihull this December have been swept up in the festive spirit with new and improved Christmas lights throughout the town centre.

The centrepiece in Mell Square is a large Christmas tree performing different light shows throughout the day – perfect for social media selfies.

As well as the tree, there is a large walk-through wreath on Mill Lane and much-improved overhead lighting in the High Street, Drury Lane, Mill Lane and around Mell Square.

The lights have been organised by Solihull BID – the Business Improvement District for the town centre – and funded by the BID as well as thanks to funding secured through Mell Square Limited, the Solihull Council controlled company that owns Mell Square.

Melanie Palmer, chief executive of Solihull BID, said: “It has been great to see so many people enjoying the new Christmas lights as they visit the town centre this festive season. The feedback we have had from our businesses and the public has been overwhelmingly positive.

“There are ambitious plans for Mell Square and Solihull town centre as a whole and we hope our new and improved lights have increased the Christmas excitement for new and returning visitors.”

Coun Ian Courts, leader of Solihull Council, added: “We are thrilled to be supporting the BID with their festive Christmas lights again this year.

“Solihull town centre enjoys a year-round reputation as a vibrant and welcoming destination for high quality shopping, business and leisure, but it always feels extra special at this time of year.

“With so much going on, these are really exciting times for our town centre.

“We want to make sure it’s always a thriving and accessible place for people to enjoy, and this spirit is reflected in our fantastic Christmas light displays.”
