A LEARNING support assistant who uses her passion for music to help raise funds for the school prom has made it onto the Local Hero shortlist.
Bonny-Lou Emery supports children at Merston School who have a range of Special Educational Needs achieve academically.
The 27-year-old took on a placement at the Smith’s Wood school two years ago as part of an evening class, but when the placement came to an end she decided to apply for a full-time position and has been there ever since.
As well as helping the children with their school work Bonny-Lou also helps raise funds for the school prom at the end of each academic year.
When she’s not at school or playing in her band she also supports a young man with special needs in the community on a part-time basis.
Speaking about her nomination she said: “I am so excited and cant believe I have even been nominated let alone shortlisted I feel privileged and very lucky.
“I literally adore my job and feel so privileged that I get to do what I do day in and day out.
“I also love to see the progression of each child no matter how small or big. I look forward to the prom and particularly fundraising for it.”
