Solihull to have 'car free day' next week

SOLIHULL residents are being urged to make a journey without their car next Tuesday (March 17).

The car free day is part of ‘Solihull on the move’, a borough-wide campaign which aims to increase physical activity and create healthier, stronger and more sustainable communities.

The council emphasises making a journey without a car can have a number of benefits, adding: “Walking or cycling part of a journey instead can boost physical and mental health, while also helping to reduce congestion and improve air quality.”

Councillor Karen Grinsell, Deputy Leader of Solihull Council, explains: “We want as many people as possible to make a journey without a car and tell us about it.

“I know it’s not always practical or easy, but if you can even make one journey or part of your journey on 17 March car free, it would be a great start.

“This isn’t just about doing it for the first time either – if you’re always car free we want to hear about it too! Use #solcarfree on Twitter and Instagram to share your journey and pictures.

“Our ‘Solihull on the move’ campaign is about getting people more physically active, in whatever way they can. It doesn’t have to involve going to the gym – every minute of activity counts, whether it be walking to the bus stop or train station, or going for a bike ride. It’s never too late to get started!”
