A COMMUNITY theatre group, have donated £1,000 Marie Curie West Midlands Hospice to help support terminally ill people and their families this Christmas following their successful production of Calendar Girls.

Coleshill on Stage Performed the stage play of Calendar Girls ten years ago and were awarded the rights to do Calendar Girls the Musical in 2022.

They performed five shows at The Core, Solihull in October.

Chairman of Coleshill on Stage John Kerr said: “As well as performing the show, the principal ladies stripped off to recreate the calendar and we sold 200 copies which raised the money we donated today.

“We have supported Marie Curie in the past and given the topic of death and bereavement in the musical we felt it was only appropriate the money raised went to the Hospice to allow them to continue their vital work in the community. “

Year 5 class at English Martyrs’ School in Sparkhill have also been busy raising money for Marie Curie after their teachers’ mum was cared for by the charity before she died.

63 students climbed stairs equivalent to the height of Mount Snowdon and raised £766.13 for Marie Curie.

The class are also hoping to support the charity in their Great Daffodil Appeal in March which is one of the most important times of the year for fundraising for the charity.

Sam Murphy, community fundraiser for the Marie Curie in the West Midlands said: “A huge thank you to Coleshill on Stage for their generous donation to the Hospice and to Year 5 at English Martyrs’ School for raising money in memory of their teacher’s mum.

“The money raised will help ensure Marie Curie Nurses can provide vital care and support to more families in the West Midlands affected by terminal illness, grief and bereavement this Christmas.

“Anyone who has any spare time in March please do get in touch as we are looking for collectors for our annual Great Daffodil Appeal and every penny raised will make a huge difference.
