Solihull swimming pools to reopen this weekend

SWIMMING pools in Solihull are set to reopen on August after the borough council brought in social distancing plans.

Tudor Grange Leisure Centre and North Solihull Sports Centre are managed by sports and leisure operator Everyone Active in partnership with Solihull Council.

Both reopened on July 25 for gym access and fitness classes and will now open their pools also.

Everyone Active stated: “Our procedures will ensure social distancing is managed throughout the centres and regular cleaning is maintained.

“There will be a one-way system in place upon entry and throughout the centres.

“Other measures to ensure social distancing will include the limiting of swimming at the two centres to lane swimming only. Swimmers will operate in double width lanes in reduced numbers and for limited time periods. The shower facilities will also be unavailable in order to keep all swimmers safe.”

A booking system has been introduced to manage occupancy levels and to avoid overcrowding. All customers will be required to pre-book for a session via a booking system.

Everyone Active added: “When customers book a swimming session they will have to pick a slow, medium or fast lane. This is important as swimmers cannot stop once they are in the pool in order to maintain social distancing.

“Each session will be a maximum of 50 minutes long, with 10 minutes at the end to allow for cleaning.”

Councillor Joe Tildesley, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Sport said: “I’m delighted that we’re now in a position to reopen our pools in a safe and managed way that keeps users safe. I’d like to remind everyone that the measures Everyone Active have put in place are for everybody’s wellbeing and should be followed at all times”.
