Solihull slimming group members help raise £1k for still-birth memory boxes

MEMBERS from a Solihull slimming group helped raise over £1,000 to provide memory boxes for parents affected by still-birth.

A Weight Watchers group has set about providing relief to grieving parents with a box designed to ensure the mementos of their lost children live on.

The group hopes the boxes – which are aimed at treating lost babies as individuals – will help to break the fear and taboo that can be associated with miscarriage, still-birth and neonatal death.

A spokesperson said: “No parent can ever imagine getting the news their baby has died while still in the womb or at birth.

“The shock and pain are unimaginable to those who have experienced such loss.

“Memory boxes are one way a grieving parent still gets to hold on to a memory.”

The boxes contain a memory card, photo frame, sliver necklace and baby’s fingerprints.

They also include a clay cast of either a baby’s hand or foot and two teddy bears – one of which can be placed by the parents in the baby’s coffin.

Debbie Onions, who runs the Weight Watcher group, added: “So far, since December, we have raised £1000 through raffles and collection boxes. The members at the Silver Street, Solihull group are more than willing to give their support.

“The boxes cost £76 to put together, but through the generous efforts of our members, they are gifted to the grieving parents.”
