A SPONTANEOUS WhatsApp chat between three brothers from Solihull has sparked an ambitious plan to run the Manchester Marathon as a team for charity.

Cole and Nathan Elleman, will push their brother Jamie – Nathan’s twin – who is a wheelchair user, for the whole distance of the 26.2 mile race on Sunday, April 19.

Jamie, lives with cerebral palsy, and the three men decided raising money for the disability equality charity Scope was something they all wanted to do.

The brothers are all thrilled and very excited to be able to run a marathon together in such a unique way.

Cole said: “I was on our group whatsapp chat and I asked Jamie what he thought about doing the marathon with me pushing him, and then before I knew it Nathan had sent back his confirmation to say he had signed up too, and then things moved quickly on to us all doing it together.”

The trio are now preparing for the challenge, motivated by their close bond and determination to cross the finish line together. Cole has run marathons before, but neither Jamie or Nathan have any marathon experience.

The three siblings are hoping to train together before the big day as much as possible.

Cole said: “Nathan and I are going to be working on our fitness and Jamie is going to train to stay nice and lean for us to make pushing the chair as easy as possible.”

Scope has a wide range of challenge events for people to sign up to and raise money like Cole, Nathan and Jamie – including marathons, half marathons and non-running sporting events.

Chantelle Ojo, Head of Supporter Led Fundraising at Scope, said: “We want to end disability inequality and support greater opportunities for disabled people. There are just too many barriers in society for the one in four of us that are disabled.

“Life still costs more for disabled people and it’s much harder to get into, and progress in work. Scope is here to create an equal future with disabled people.”
