Solihull schools to to make own decision on closure during heatwave

SCHOOLS across Solihull will be left to make decisions on whether to close early during the heatwave the council have confirmed.

A red weather alert for extreme heat has been issued by the MetOffice across the West Midlands as temperatures are set to rise to more than 38°C in the coming days.

A number of schools in neighbouring Worcestershire have closed early or for the entire day due to concerns over staff and pupils spending prolonged periods inside stuffy classrooms.

Among the advice being issued nationally is to stay out of the sun particularly in the direct sunlight period between 11am and 3pm, to hydrate constantly, stop strenuous exercise and look out for signs of heat exhaustion.
