Solihull schools and colleges honour the fallen

SCHOOLS and colleges across the borough gathered to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Over 1,100 pupils, staff, governors and invited guests gathered in Solihull School’s Great Quadrangle on Armistice Day (November 11) to remember those who died in the World Wars and other conflicts.

Wreaths were laid at the war memorial by the heads of school, Isabella Skinner and Tom Payne, the school’s headmaster, Charles Fillingham as well as serving personnel and veterans from across the military branches.

A rendition of the Last Post was played by Fourth Form pupil Izzy Olden, followed by a two-minute silence, the Reveille played by Third Form pupil Tristan Arthur, and a Roll of Honour, before Mr Fillingham recited the traditional tribute to The Fallen.

The Act of Remembrance was live streamed to 500 Prep School pupils and staff on the Saint Martin’s campus and was followed by a Sixth Form Chapel Service led by Chaplain, Reverend Rachel Hill-Brown.

Shirley Pipe Band and led a Remembrance Day Parade of the Uniformed Protective Service at Solihull College’s Blossomfield Campus to mark Armistice Day.




At 11am, two minutes silence was observed by students, staff, family and friends who were in attendance.
