A SOLIHULL schoolgirl has been chosen as one of the baton bearers for the Queen’s Baton Relay.

Shymika Brown will be carrying the baton on June 27 as it makes its way across Wales then England before its final stop in Birmingham at the start of the Commonwealth Games.

The Lyndon School head prefect holds the one of just two sports ties given to pupils in each year group for their commitment to sport and the ideas of teamwork, communication, and leadership.

The relay began last October with the Queen placing her message to the Commonwealth into the baton.

The Baton is now on its 294-day long journey across all 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth.

Abid Butt, principal at Lyndon School said: “Shymika is a shining beacon of the potential for her generation and will become one of the leaders of tomorrow.

“Everyone at Lyndon is so proud that she will be representing us as part of this illustrious event.”
