Solihull school netballers win bronze at national competition

NETBALLERS from Solihull School are celebrating after winning bronze at the National Schools Netball Finals.

The under-14 squad was one of the two teams representing West Midlands Netball in the national competition in Hertfordshire.

The Solihull team played against schools from across the country, including Newcastle High School for Girls and Taunton School.

A confident seven out of eight wins in the first round saw the team remain at the top of the standings until the semi-finals, where they were beaten by Berkhamsted School.

They then beat Godolphin and Latymer in the third-place play-off match – 10-8 in favour of Solihull School – to win bronze overall.

Solihull School netball coach, Danni Wana, led the ten-girl squad to the semi-finals following two terms of intense training and hard work.

She said: “I am extremely proud of the girls for their intensity and commitment. We were up against some very talented teams from across the country and we gave a great account of ourselves.

“Qualifying for the nationals was a huge achievement in itself, so for the girls to leave with bronze medals was richly deserved.”

Solihull’s First VII netball team will join the First XI hockey team on a tour of Malaysia and Singapore this summer.
