A PAIR of students from Lyndon School in Solihull celebrated BBC School Report day by making the trip to the BBC Broadcasting House in London.

Yvonne Green and Roshane Neale-Merchant, both aged 12 and currently studying in year seven, worked on a report in London and also met director general of the BBC, Tony Hall.

The school was invited to the Broadcasting House following a tweet from the school of a cake that had been made by a member of staff.

The cake was used to raise money for Sport Relief and was designed with a BBC logo and microphone.

After seeing the tweet, the BBC decided to invite Yvonne and Roshane to take part in the school report day live from London.

Students spent the day at the BBC and received a tour as well as working on their own BBC School News Report – which was put onto the BBC website.

Roshane Neale-Merchant said: “It was an amazing experience.

“It was great meeting Tony Hall, he was really nice and talked to us about our school and how nobody ever normally brings him cake.”

Yvonne said: “I loved touring the BBC and meeting everybody – and our cake was famous.”

Back in Solihull, the rest of the year seven school news team worked on their own school news reports, which were also submitted onto the BBC School News report website.
