PUPILS from a school in Solihull have donated money to West Midlands retired police dogs following a fundraiser they held earlier this year.

Damson Wood Nursery and Infant School raised the money for the West Midlands Police (WMP) Dog Benevolent Fund after it won the children’s vote.

The police dogs Addie and Eccles were welcomed at the children’s assembly where WMP’s four-legged pups and their handlers were presented with the cheque.

Officers, staff and pups gave a short talk to the children and staff about the importance of police dogs and what the money raised will be used for.

Insp Leanne Chapman from the Dog Unit, said: “We’re so thankful for this kind and generous donation from Damson Wood. It’s a really lovely thing to do, especially for our retired police dogs.

“Our dogs play a huge part in protecting the public and tackling crime. They are a credit to West Midlands Police and it’s great that Damson Wood have thought about them.”

Emily Hume, Headteacher at Damson Wood, said: “We are so grateful to the four officers and two dogs who attended our assembly.

“The children and staff absolutely loved meeting them and hearing about their important work.

“It was lovely to see and hear what the children’s fundraising has gone towards and makes the whole process so much more meaningful for them.”
