Solihull School celebrates Pride month

PRIDE month was celebrated at Solihull School with an assembly.

The Senior School’s Equity Group led on this year’s theme: ‘The Fabric of Freedom’.

Drawing inspiration from nature, fashion, and global traditions, pupils showed how freedom, identity and community are intricately woven together – much like a tapestry. The assembly featured a short film created with drone footage from Mr Chauhan, showcasing the school’s Warwick Road campus as a symbol of connection.

The assembly also discussed the origins of Pride as a protest and its evolution into a celebration of love, visibility and human rights.

Pupils from the Equity Group also reminded the school that Pride is not just for LGBTQ+ individuals, but for anyone who believes in justice, dignity and equality.

Shell Form pupil Eliza, who took part in the assembly, said: “What connects us is more important than what divides us.

“We all want to feel safe, accepted and proud of who we are, and that’s what Pride is really about.”

The assembly launched several community initiatives, including a pop-up rainbow stall raising money for Save the Children, supporting LGBTQIA+ youth and other vulnerable groups; a collaborative patchwork project where pupils and staff can contribute a felt square for a collective wall hanging; and a fashion design competition inspired by the theme.
