FINAL rehearsals are underway for Solihull School actors as they pack their bags and head up to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Appearing at festival as Grey Dog Theatre Company, a reference to the greyhounds which appear on the school crest, Solihull pupils will feature in the children’s shows and theatre sections of the famous festival, from August 2 to August 10.
The two casts are hoping to wow festival-goers as they did in Solihull with special performances in June on the school’s Bushell Hall stage.
Grimm Tales, directed by the school’s head of drama, James Hammond, is a collection of four fairy tales adapted by the poet laureate, Carol Ann Duffy.
The stage adaptation bring the stories to life using music, puppetry and physical theatre and reveal all about the world of myth and discovery.
Invisible, devised by a group of sixth form students, is an innovative retelling of HG Wells’ story The Invisible Man.
Combining the Victorian original with a contemporary vision, Invisible explores some of what it means to be anonymous and how it might affect our treatment of each other.
Grimm Tales will feature in the children’s shows section at Edinburgh’s Greenside, in Nicholson Square, while Invisible will feature in the theatre section at the same venue.
Mr Hammond said: “We are really excited about these performances. It’s thrilling to see a young cast respond to classic texts with so much originality and theatricality.
“I’m confident the audience will love both productions, as they did during our preview shows at school.”
