Solihull Royal British Legion launch poppy appeal

Solihull Editorial 2nd Nov, 2021   0

SOLIHULL Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal has officially been launched.

To mark The Royal British Legion’s 100th anniversary the Solihull branch will be out in force to raise funds to provide financial, social and emotional support millions of serving and ex-servicemen and women and their families.

This year’s appeal was launched at the St Alphege Church war memorial by Solihull Mayor, Coun Ken Meeson, Solihull Mayorress Annette Meeson as well as Tracey Walker, branch chairman at Solihull Royal British Legion and Rob Walker, branch secretary and standard bearer at Solihull Royal British Legion.

The Mayor said: “We honour all those who like my grandfather and other family members died in two world wars and the sacrifice of men and women from the military and civilian forces who fought for the freedom we all enjoy.

“We remember those who have served in other conflicts across the world and members of the current armed forces who still suffer the mental scars and dreadful injuries as a result of war.

“Please wear a poppy as a mark of respect and pride for all who serve our nation and to support the work of the British Legion in caring for veterans and their families.”

Hoping to build on previous year’s success there will be Solihull Royal British Legion volunteers around the town centre and in Touchwood collecting donations over the coming weeks.

Tracey Walker, chairman of the Solihull Royal British Legion Branch, said: “I would like to thank the people of Solihull for their outstanding generosity over the years and hope that this year’s appeal will raise the vital funds that are needed to help those who rely on the Royal British Legion for support”.
