RETIREES are being urged to apply for pension credit to potentially qualify for a £300 top up.
Meriden MP, Saqib Bhatti has joined the campaign alongside ex-football manager Harry Redknapp calling on pensioners to sign up before deadline day on Sunday (December 10).
The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has teamed up with Harry to urge pensioners to sign up for pension credits before deadline day.
In a DWP video, the now turned pundit is seen rolling down his car window – in a nod to how he once gave interviews on on transfer deadline day and hails pension credits as a ‘brilliant signing’ and calls on pensioners and their loved ones to use the online pension credit calculator to see what they are entitled to.
And those eligible for the benefit could receive a one-off £300 Cost of Living Payment from the government.
Pension credits provide extra money to help with living costs for those over State Pension age and on a low income, and can also help with housing costs, such as ground rent or service charges.
It tops up a person’s income to a minimum of £201.05 a week for single pensioners and up to £306.85 for couples.
Mr Bhatti said: “I am encouraging all pensioners and their loved ones to use the pensions credit calculator to see how much they could be entitled to.
“Signing up before December 10 could mean receiving an extra £300 Cost of Living boost in addition to support worth an average of £3,900 per year.”
