Solihull residents urged to have their say on mental health provision under West Midlands Combined Authority

Solihull Editorial 15th Apr, 2016 Updated: 24th Oct, 2016   0

RESIDENTS who want to have their say on the future of mental health care in the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) have just days to sign up.

Registration for a place at one of the three ‘listening events’ the WMCA Mental Health Commission is hosting across the region closes on Monday, April 18.

The events, chaired by Norman Lamb – Liberal Democrat MP for North Norfolk and long-standing mental health advocate – will present evidence collected from people who have mental health experience, professional mental health practitioners and organisations, and the opinions of the general public.

It is hoped the events will shed light on the impact poor mental health and wellbeing and its future within public services.

Pete Bryant, from Shared Future, the community interest company that is running the events, said: “We are reaching out to people to play their part in this groundbreaking commission.

“Around one in four people in the UK experience mental health problems in any given year and one in ten young people will experience mental health problems before they reach adulthood.

“If we can try and tackle poor mental health, we can help build a better life for people, as well as reduce our spending in the long run.

“This is a great opportunity for people to have their say.”

Visit the WCMA website at www.westmidlandscombinedauthority.org.uk for more information and to register your interest.

The listening events are taking place:

Tuesday, April 26 – Coventry Central Hall, 1.30pm until 5pm

Friday, April 29 – Dudley Town hall, from 1.30pm until 5pm

Tuesday, May 3 – Birmingham BVSC, rooms 4/5/6, from 1.30pm until 5pm.
