Solihull ready for a royal celebration

Solihull Editorial 3rd May, 2023   0

PREPARATIONS are well under way for a royal celebration across Solihull.

Parks, community halls, streets and churches are hanging the bunting ready to mark the historic coronation of King Charles III with fun fairs, picnics, parties and live screenings of the event.

Malvern Park is getting a Coronation makeover of its gates too.

Volunteers will also be out in force as The Big Help Out takes place as more people are urged to try out volunteering and make a difference in their communities.

Meanwhile, Robert Wilkinson’s Fun Fair will be in Meriden Park on May 5, 6, 7, 13 and 14.

Solihull town centre will turn into a hive of activity on Coronation Day, Saturday.

Transport Museum Wythall will be running free vintage bus tours from Solihull train station into the town centre and a static bus will be in Mell Square.

The Union Flag Belles will provide roaming entertainment and there’s a chance to take a selfie on a royal throne.

There’s also a chance to watch a free screening of the Coronation at The Core – but tickets need to be booked in advance.

On Saturday (May 6) there will be:

* A Coronation screening followed by refreshments at St James Church on Church Road in Shirley from 10.45am

* A Sunflower pop-up craft fair at St Leonard’s Church, 32 Elmdon Road in Marston Green from 9am until 5pm

* Coronation screening and Street Party at St Margaret’s Church on Old Warwick Road in Solihull from 11am until 4pm.
