A PRIMARY school in Solihull has been awarded The National School Travel Award for encouraging children to walk to school and promoting alternative ways to get to there.
The school made the decision to get the pupils involved with sustainable travel projects to help reduce congestion on the roads, reduce pollution and promote healthy lifestyles – and have since joined forces with Solihull Council’s Safe and Active Travel team to work on a number of initiatives.
A spokesperson for Yew Tree Primary School said: “The changes in attitudes, behaviour and emotional well-being have been significant and overwhelmingly positive.
“The impact of the walking bus has been fantastic – Walking Bus pupils arrive punctually and in a calm manner ready for learning.
“We are very proud of how our walking bus has been identified as an example of good practice.”
