A SOLIHULL podcaster has scooped a top interview with heavy metal music legend Rob Halford – the openly gay frontman of Judas Priest.
Dan Hudson is one half of the hit podcast A Gay And A NonGay, the award-winning LGBTQ+ pod which has won plaudits across the UK and beyond.
And together with co-host James Barr the former Tudor Grange High School student is on a mission to talk with honesty, promoting equality, freedom, friendship and laughter through the podcast.
“I studied politics at Leeds University but while there did a ton of student radio,” said Dan, who now splits his time between London and the Midlands.
“I then did a load of work experience before joining Kerrang in Birmingham, then Kiss in London before going freelance five years ago.”
He teamed up with James at the suggestion of his producer girlfriend four years ago.
“She was friends with him and noticed me and James had absolutely nothing in common with each other and said we should therefore do a podcast together.”
Back then, podcasts were already big in America and fast arriving in the UK.
“We were lucky enough to catch that wave and it’s done really well ever since,” said Dan, who also freelances for the BBC.
The Rob Halford interview is a real scoop, recorded especially for International Heavy Metal Day on November 11.
Rob tells Dan and James of his long career as one of the only openly gay performers in heavy metal and how in 2020, more and more Judas Priest fans are coming out.
He says: “I’ve been a gay metalhead since day one, but it’s only now we’re pushing up to the front row and headbanging over the barrier… It’s beautiful, all around the planet, the love and the thank yous and the whispering ‘I’m a gay too, it’s fabulous!”
