SOLIHULL parks and cemetery workers are set to strike over a pay dispute.
Ground maintenance crews who work for contactor Idverde will walk out for two weeks from July 3.
GMB Union says a strike ballot saw 100 per cent of its members vote for strike action on a 70 per cent turn out.
It added that workers are angry because Idverde – who took over the contract from Amey last year – are trying to impose a real terms pay cut.
Rebecca Mitchell, GMB organiser, said: “Idverde have agreed to emergency talks and this is the last chance to avoid a Summer of chaos in Solihull’s parks and cemeteries.
“GMB members will not accept a real terms pay cut during a cost of living crisis. Workers have been left with no choice but to take a stand.
“Ultimately it’s those who visit Solihull’s parks and cemeteries who will suffer if IDverde don’t change their truculent approach.”
A spoksperson from Idverde said: “We are disappointed by the action proposed by our colleagues at our site in Solihull.
“We remain open to constructive discussions with colleagues and look forward to agreeing a workable solution.
“In the meantime, we would like to put minds at rest and confirm that parks, cemeteries and all public areas maintained by idverde will remain open.”
