STUDENTS at Ninestiles school have been taking to the stage this week to put on their performance of the Charles Dickens classic, Oliver Twist.

The school put on a matinee performance of the show on Monday February 5 and around 150 primary school pupils came along from Severne Primary and The Oaklands.

Not only did the children come along to enjoy the show, it is hoped that spending some time in the secondary school environment will help with the transition when they start in Year seven themselves.

Ninestiles learners put on a fabulous show, charting the journey of Oliver Twist through Dickensian London and the challenges of a Victorian childhood.

There was also a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes, where a team of young people worked on everything from the lights to the scenery.

Evening performances of the show will continue throughout the week before the final curtain on Wednesday.

Alex Hughes, Principal at Ninestiles, an Academy said: “I want to give a standing ovation to everyone who has worked so hard to make our production of Oliver a success.

“I know the primary school children that came along really enjoyed the show and the experience of being in a secondary school environment and I can’t wait for the rest of the performances.”
