Solihull mum offers helping hand to new parents hit by covid restrictions

Solihull Editorial 12th Nov, 2021   0

A SOLIHULL mum set up a new business during lockdown which offers much-needed support to fellow parents.

Nikki Watson wasn’t getting any bookings working as a supply teacher and since becoming a mum in 2018 she found a new interest in babies development.

So she decided to follow her instincts and after much thought and research she decided to start up Solihull Baby Massage.

As well as teaching effective massage techniques and the benefit they have on baby Nikki also wanted to provide a support net for parents.

Inspired by her experience with a reflux child and hearing parents stories of not seeing a health visitor or having baby weighed as often as they liked due to Covid restrictions Nikki decided to use her classes to fill in these gaps.

The classes also offers time for parents to swap tips and a chat with a hot cuppa.

She also has a photographer attend the group to give families a chance to get pictures of their newborns as this chance was often missed due to Covid restrictions.

Nikki said: “I am really passionate about supporting new parents.

“The NHS is so stretched and new parents are not able to always get the support or advice that they need.

“This is where I am trying to make a difference and offer support where I can; by sharing information on social media for easy access, pointing out professionals that are available to help, offering support and advice about lots of common newborn issues in my classes, as well as being able to weigh their babies.”

Nikki also holds weekly Instagram sessions for parents to join in with a bedtime massage and gives them the chance to ask questions.

Nikki says if she doesn’t know the answer she will pass on to someone who can help the parent.
