Solihull Moors Women receive sponsorship from councillors

SOLIHULL Moors Women Football Club have been handed player sponsorship from a pair of Councillors to help with kit and equipment.

Coun Alan Feeney for Castle Bromwich and Coun Ken Hawkins for Blythe each sponsored a player for £100 having read a request the club posted on social media.

The Solihull Moors Foundation said the women’s team relies on voluntary donations and fundraising, so this contribution goes towards supporting our kit, equipment and growth within the section.

And this season the team is hoping to build on the success of the Lionesses victory over Germany to lift the Euro cup.

Becci Fox, CEO of the Solihull Moors Foundation, said: “We are extremely grateful to both Coun Alan Feeney and Coun Ken Hawkins for their generous donation of sponsorship for this season.

“This season we are looking forward to building on the success of the Lionesses and will be offering initiatives to get more fans down to support the Women’s team.

“We want women and girls of all ages, experiences and abilities to have the opportunity to access social football and have exciting plans in the pipeline.”

Coun Hawkins is sponsoring a midfielder and Coun Feeney a forward and both wish the team success this season.

And now the Conservative councillors are calling on others to do the same.

Coun Feeney said: “Both Ken and I want to give something back to our local sports teams and hope that other individuals and businesses can do so as well. Times are tight economically at present but our local teams need our support.”

Coun Hawkins added: “I have always tried to support local sports teams and when I saw the plea for sponsorship I wanted to help and urge others to join us. There are many local teams wanting support to help sustain their commitment to our communities.”
