Solihull Mayor launches two charities of the year

SOLIHULL Mayor has launched her campaign to support two charities.

The Mayor, Councillor Diana Holl-Allen, met with the Marie Curie Hospice’s deputy head of fundraising for the West Midlands and South West, Rachel Nash, to discuss plans for the mayoral year.

Coun Holl-Allen previously worked as a nurse at the charity’s predecessor, Warren Pearl, and has lost friends and loved ones to cancer.

The Mayor has also chosen to support the British Heart Foundation for the forthcoming year, which funds research into heart and circulatory diseases and supports those affected by them.

She hosted a gala dinner at the Knowle Indian Brasserie with all profits – £778.14 – being donated to the charity.

The Mayor said: “As Mayor, nominating just one main charity to support is never easy, especially as there are so many wonderful charities working in our borough.

“This year, I am delighted to be working closely with, amongst others, the Marie Curie Hospice and British Heart Foundation: two organisations that are very dear to me.

“It was a pleasure to meet with representatives from both charities recently to ‘launch’ our partnership and discuss how we’re going to promote their work and fundraise over the course of my mayoralty.

“This is just the start: we have lots planned to support these wonderful causes, including the Mayor’s charity concert and Mayor’s ball which will take place next year.”
