MARATHON-running Margaret Smith is hitting the fundraising trail once again – this time in memory of her late partner Richard Hewitt who died in January after a brave battle with cancer.
We featured 83-year-old Margaret’s marvellous exploits in The Observer in September as she was preparing to take on the Great North Run in memory of her last husband Gordon who died of cancer in 1996 and in honour of her then-current partner Richard who had not long been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
She raised £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie through online and cash donations.
Now she is taking on the Run For Fun Solihull Half Marathon on April 2 to raise money for Cancer Research UK – and is hoping Observer readers will once again dig deep and sponsor her to help raise as much money as possible.
“We must do more to stop this killer disease and I hope people will sponsor me to help the fight,” Margaret told the paper.
