PUPILS and teachers at Solihull Junior School have been given starring roles in a St John Ambulance fireworks safety show to be streamed into schools across the country next month.

The youngsters and staff recently acted out various first aid scenarios for the Big First Aid Lesson, which will be shown in classrooms on the afternoon of Friday November 3.

The show will feature television star Reece Buttery, a St John Ambulance cadet known for his roles in the BBC Christmas adaptation of David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny, CBBC’s The Dumping Ground and The Secret Life of Boys.

It will also include practical elements, animations and interactive activities which will give thousands of young people essential life-saving skills.

Every year six pupil at the leading seven-to-18 independent school learns first aid with St John Ambulance through a series of practical sessions each year. In addition, the whole school receives an assembly on basic first aid.

Headteacher Mark Penney said: “We are proud of the first aid education pupils receive during their time at our school and I am delighted they have been able to make a contribution to raising national awareness of the importance of firework safety.”
