A CONSULTANT anaesthetist is set to take centre stage alongside 10 other medical professionals to raise funds for Solihull Hospital Charity.
Dr Raja Lakshmanan is the bass guitarist in Bollywood Therapy, an 11-member group that plays Bollywood inspired music.
All of the members are medical professionals, mostly doctors and they will be performing their first gig since the Covid pandemic on October 11 at the Dovehouse Theatre.
Dr Lakshmanan said, “Bollywood Therapy believes in Passion With Purpose – music is what we love, and being doctors is a privilege.
“Just like the other doctors in the band, looking after patients comes first for me.
“The job can be tough and tiring, but nothing lifts our spirits like a band rehearsal. It’s a brilliant way to mix our day jobs with our love for music.
“We’re all about giving something back, especially to our local hospital, and that’s the reason why we’re raising money for Solihull Hospital Charity.
“The money we raise from our two ‘Bollywood Therapy presents Filmi Beats’ gigs will go towards supporting the Pre-operative Assessment Service at Solihull Hospital, which helps nearly 2,000 patients every month.
“This wouldn’t be possible without the fantastic team of specialist nurses and HCAs, who run the whole service with support from consultant anaesthetists for complex patients.
“We really hope the event brings in much-needed funds and shines a light on the amazing work they do.”
The band began as a fun hobby at first, where friends could get together and enjoy playing music.
It has now become a passion project for the musicians to raise money to support the hospital charity and help their patients going through treatment.
Charlotte Schofield, director of fundraising for the hospital charity said, “When staff get involved with fundraising, they help spread the message to their patients about the work we do and the difference it makes.
“Patients can see their passion and motivation, and this inspires them to also get involved.
“Thanks to this support, the hospital charity can continue funding added extras such as state-of-the-art equipment, ward refurbishments and wellbeing support for patients and staff, enhancing the hospital experience and changing lives.”
