A TOP NHS boss has got his running shoes on and is ready to take on the Birmingham Half Marathon.

Andrew Clements, the director of operations at Solihull Hospital and Community Services will be taking on the 13-mile course in aid of Solihull Hospital Charity.

The Charity aims to provide the added extras for patients, families, and staff, that are ‘over and above’ what NHS can fund – from state-of-the-art equipment and research that saves lives, to garden spaces, activities, and toys.

Andrew said: “My daughter, Leah, who is 21 has found a love for running and she wants to do more, so I want to build on this opportunity and support my daughter, as well as get myself back into the sport.

“It is also important to me to support my local hospital, as well as raise funds to support Solihull Hospital Charity.

“As a colleague at Solihull Hospital, I feel strongly about ‘giving something back’ and doing my bit to do all I can to improve the hospital for patients and staff.”

All money raised by Andrew will go to Solihull Hospital patients and their families.

In 2023 alone, Solihull Hospital saw 265,235 outpatient appointments attended, performed 8,2462 operations, started cancer treatments for 4,462 people, and from June to the end of the year, 7,148 patients were seen at the Urgent Treatment Centre.

The Birmingham Half Marathon is part of the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run, the largest running event in the Midlands.
