GEOLOGY students at Solihull Sixth Form College visited Bradgate Valley and Charnwood Forest Geopark in Leicestershire recently to complete essential fieldwork.
Both Year 12 and Year 13 Geologists went on the trip, which was led by Dr Jack Matthews, conservation and interpretation officer at Charnwood Forest Geopark.
The Geopark is an area of great geological significance, as it is home to fossils that are around 600 million years old.
These fossils represent evidence for some of our oldest animal ancestors and they have allowed scientists to better understand the evolution of these creatures.
Humanities curriculum leader Karen Greaves said: “We are grateful to Dr Jack Matthews for leading this trip.
“His expertise is of enormous benefit to our Geologists and complements what they have been learning in their A level studies.
“Although the early March weather was not terribly kind to us, the students really enjoyed the trip and completed some very valuable fieldwork, which is an important part of their course.”
