Solihull funerals to offer webstreaming service amid Covid-19 restrictions

SOLIHULL Council is offering web streaming of funerals at Woodlands and Robin Hood Crematoriums from Monday (April 27).

The new service is being provided to help mourners include family and friends at funerals in light of restrictions on attendance during the pandemic.

The service gives mourners a private link to watch the funeral safely from their homes via the internet. There will be no additional charge to use the facility while restrictions on attendance apply, the council adds.

The local authority is contacting funeral directors across the borough to make them aware of the new service which applicants can book as part of the service arrangements.

The council says mourners are also welcome to use mobile phones to film and share funeral services with those not able to attend – using media platforms such as Facebook Live – provided they have permission from the person who booked the funeral and the funeral officiant or minister.

All three cemeteries in Solihull have reopened at weekends from 9am to 6pm for personal visits to graves and memorials.

Social distancing guidelines should be observed and visitors should not gather at a cemetery, the council emphasises.

It says there has been a significant increase in the number of funerals, so in order to safely manage mourners accessing the sites, cemeteries will remain closed during the week, other than for those attending a funeral.
